Started from Guwahati (Assam) on May 9th, our expedition was completed a few weeks later, leaving us filled with unforgettable memories.
The theme of the subsequent Travel Show, presently aired jointly by FOX life and National Geographic TV channels, revolves around a motorcycle journey through 3 North-East States of India – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya – of actor Kalki Koechlin, along with her father, traveller and photographer, Joel Koechlin.
With his long-standing experience of scouting the Himalayas on a prestigious Honda Goldwing motorcycle, he will introduce her to these amazing – and for most, remote – regions.
In this way, we will also witness a unique father-daughter relationship through adventure and culture, which can inspire families to bond through travel and help build bridges between generation gaps.
Ethical Goal of the Journey
Despite the fact that we live in one of the most geographically diverse and beautiful countries in the world, as a nation we still have a lot to learn about responsible tourism. It has reached a point where access to beautiful pristine areas of India, especially in the Himalayan regions, are threatened, essentially due to poor tourists’ conduct.
To counter this trend, we want to introduce the idea of environmentally and socially responsible tourism, to set an example for many Indian travellers on how to enjoy our country without destroying it and ultimately, to make tourism a sustainable and long-term source of business for the inhabitant. We want to do this through a fun, interactive journey with local people, local food and by exploring stunning, untouched areas of the North East, so that people feel inspired to follow a similar approach.
Some of the basic guidelines we will travel with
1) Containing the whole of our waste.
2) Curious but respectful interaction with the local population.
3) Maximum participation into the native economy by consuming mostly local food, drinks & commodities and avoiding non-local goods & consumables. Staying with the locals when possible.
4) Avoiding noisy, rash and arrogant behavior and driving habits.
5) Self-limiting group size to small numbers.
